What an exceptional year it has been for Netflix Animation, highlighted by the release of some of the department’s finest movies and shows over the past 12 months. Wrapping up the year on a positive note is the eagerly awaited return of Ginger and Rocky, who last graced our screens 23 years ago.
The narrative picks up with the chickens now residing in paradise, only to realize that their newfound freedom should be appreciated cautiously, as a new threat emerges on the mainland.
I was fortunate to attend the global premiere of Chicken Run 2 in London earlier this year and found it thoroughly enjoyable. The film maintains the classic humor characteristic of an Aardman movie but showcases visual improvements compared to its predecessor.

However, their plan takes an absurd turn, leading to the drone’s destruction. Faced with the urgent need to replace it before Max’s dad (Will Forte, The Last Man on Earth) returns home, the boys opt to skip school, setting off on a chain of hilariously bad decisions. This escapade involves inadvertently stolen drugs, a paintball adventure at a frat house, and a chaotic run from both the police and formidable teenage girls (Molly Gordon from Life of the Party and Midori Francis from Ocean’s Eight).
Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg of Point Grey, renowned for Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Sausage Party, in collaboration with James Weaver (Neighbors), “Good Boys,” a production of Universal Pictures and Good Universe, is scripted by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (known for NBC’s The Office and Bad Teacher). Illumination, the studio celebrated for Despicable Me, undertook the task of bringing Mario and his friends to the big screen, achieving this feat remarkably earlier in the year.
After a four-month run on Peacock, the streaming rights for the movie have been acquired by Netflix. Following a 10-month period on Netflix, the movie is scheduled to return to Peacock.
